Why Zcash Mining Is Gaining Attention

Why More Miners Are Turning to Zcash Right Now?
As Bitcoin continues to trade through a red market, many miners are shifting attention toward Zcash due to improving relative economics and strong cash-flow potential from efficient ASIC operations.

Zcash Mining Fundamentals

Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency built on a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism using Equihash.

Mining is performed using specialized ASIC hardware such as the Z15 Pro 860K, which secures the network and earns block rewards in return.

Profitability, ROI & Uptime: The Same Equation

At current market conditions, Zcash mining is generating approximately $45/day in net profit per unit, with an estimated ~8-month ROI on hardware deployments.

This is why the asset has started to regain attention from miners focused on cash-flow and payback period rather than long-term price speculation.

But profitability is not driven by one variable, but it is the combined effect of multiple inputs working together:

  • ZEC price
  • Network difficulty
  • Electricity cost
  • Service
  • Uptime

Each factor directly impacts daily revenue and long-term ROI. Even small changes in any one of these can materially affect overall returns.

Among them, uptime is often the most overlooked, and one of the most important.

From last year into this year, our Arkansas facility experienced only two curtailment events, each lasting approximately four hours.

That equates to roughly 99.91% uptime.

To put that into context:

  • At 99.91% uptime, miners are consistently generating revenue
  • At 85% uptime, miners lose ~15% of monthly production

That gap alone can outweigh savings from lower electricity pricing or advertised hosting rates. In mining, consistency often matters as much as cost.

Proof-of-Work Status & Outlook

There have been ongoing discussions and speculation around Zcash potentially transitioning from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).

At this time:

  • Zcash remains fully Proof-of-Work
  • No official timeline exists for a PoS transition
  • Any future changes remain speculative and are expected to be years away, if they occur at all

This provides miners with meaningful runway to continue operating and targeting ROI using existing ASIC infrastructure.
